A Bedford television and film producer has made a deal to stop the dismantling of the historic Ioka theater -- but said he has no money to work with other than his credit card.

Ioka Theater drive reaches its $10,000 goal

EXETER — The marquee on the Ioka Theater has been dark since it closed in December, but it was once again glowing brightly over Water Street last night.
As soon as the marquee was turned on to display a message of thanks, a small crowd below applauded and passing cars honked.
A community campaign to save the Ioka reached its first milestone last night when $10,514 was raised to place a "good faith" deposit on the historic downtown theater.
"It's going to be exciting because it lets us move to the next step," an elated Marc Murai told supporters who gathered to hear whether the $10,000 deposit needed by last night's deadline would be raised.
